Threats System Threats & Protection Advisory System Discussion A misleading mail piece has gone out to Lafayette residents. The text below which is in bold refers to charges in the 4- page mailer. The design of the piece is meant to elicit Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt...Large, screaming headlines dominate the piece. (The headline on the front page is literally being screamed by a young boy.) The flyer hopes to gain some credibility by quoting newspapers but, unfortunately for the author's arguments, the sort of selective quotation you find there only serves to put the reader on notice that the argument being made cannot be supported any other way. Recommended Activities
______________________________________________________________ • Disinformation Threat Advisories contain actionable information about an incident involving, or a threat targeting, critical local information networks. They could, for example, relay newly developed procedures that, when implemented, would significantly improve information security or protection. They could also suggest a change in readiness posture, protective actions, or response. • Disinformation Bulletins communicate information of interest to Lafayette's critical informational infrastructures that do not meet the timeliness, specificity, or significance thresholds of warning messages. Such information may include statistical reports, periodic summaries, incident response or reporting guidelines, common vulnerabilities and patches, and configuration standards or tools. It also may include preliminary requests for information. Bulletins are targeted to all concerned citizens .• Color-coded Disinformation Threat Level System is used to communicate with informational media and the public at large through a threat-based, color-coded system so that protective measures can be implemented to reduce the likelihood or impact of an attack. posted:9/20/04 |
