For the curious, here is how I figured that the truth was 56 times more powerful than lies in the TriCities.

The Votes:

Batavia:
Yes 6056
No 6785

St. Charles:
Yes 7700
No 9724

Geneva:
1. TV
NO. OF VOTES
YES 4247
NO 5981
2. Phone
NO. OF VOTES
YES 4288
NO 5843
3. Utility
NO. OF VOTES
YES 4019
NO 6035

(For Geneva I averaged the three question to give me a single yes or no answer.)

yes 4185
no 5933

Added the totals for all 3.

yes 17941
no 22462

Cost of Pro and Con Votes:

Divide the dollars by the votes to get a dollars per vote for each side. (Round to nearest cent)

4325 / 17941 = 0.241067944931 (cost of a yes vote)

301065 / 22462 = 13.40330335678 (cost for a no vote)

The Power of Truth

Got the ration of dollars per vote for each side, rounded to 56
13.4 / .24 = 55.833333333333

The Cost of Winning

Half of the difference between the pro and con votes rounded up gives you the number of votes needed to produce a one vote victory.

22462 - 17941= 4521 (difference)

4521 / 2 = 2260.5 (votes to change outcome)

Multiply that number by the cost per yes vote, et voila: $542.64.

.24 * 2261= 542.64 (how much it might have cost to change the outcome.)
